Things to see and do in Edinburgh

We at the West End Hostel want your stay with us to be unforgettable, so we have put together a list of attractions you should see while you’re in our breath taking city.

Edinburgh Castle
The main attraction in Scotland’s capital city. It sits high on the remains of an extinct volcano over looking the city centre. The exterior is ever so impressive, however the stories held within its walls will leave you intrigued and bemused.

The Palace of Holyrood House
The Queen’s official Scottish residence, situated at the end of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. The Palace might be better known as the home of Mary, Queen of Scotts. If you fancy a walk, the Palace sits at the foot of Arthur’s Seat and is surrounded by the hilly green of Holyrood Park.

Royal Yacht Britannia
Get a taste of what royal life at sea was like when you board this majestic vessel. This ship has played host to many famous people yet is know mostly as another of Her Majesty the Queen’s royal residencies.

Museum of Scotland
The Museum of Scotland covers the entire story of Scotland its land, its people and culture. Some exhibits are millions of years old, others less than a decade.

Shopping in Edinburgh

Fancy a spot of shopping?? Well look no further! Edinburgh boasts a wide variety of shops to meet everyone’s expectations:

  • Princes Street is where you will find your High Street Fashion like Top Shop etc.
  • George Street has a great selection of designer names and is only a stones throw away from Harvey Nichols department store.
  • Tourists seeking Scottish gifts should head straight for the Royal Mile.
  • For other unique specialty shops head for Cockburn Street and the Grassmarket.

All these areas are within walking distance of the hotel and our staff will be happy to point you in the right direction (we are all self confessed shopaholics).
